Need INPA/EWS help PLEASE!
1 Attachment(s)
Hello All,
I have a no start issue on my 04. I think I need to re sync the key(s) to the EWS. In my scans, I show "no error" in my EWS, but don't think that has anything to do with my no start problem. I have INPA and have been told it can be done with that. I have looked everywhere online to get a tutorial for this procedure. I am a PC idiot, to say the least so have that struggle as well. Can anyone point me in a direction on how to do this with INPA? Would greatly appreciate it. Posted this pic in another thread, but putting it here as well. This is what is pushing me in the direction of re sync. |
You cannot just "re-sync" any key with the EWS. Matching a key to an EWS is a fairly full-on programming process that usually involves removing the EWS and attaching a programming system to the EEPROM chip on the EWS circuit board.
It's also highly unlikely that your no-start issue is related to the EWS-key programming. This "sync" between a key and the EWS is almost impossible the "break". Given the issues you are having connecting to multiple modules in the car, it seems more likely there is a communication bus error that is stopping the EWS telling the DME it is OK for the car to start. Probably best to start by sorting the bus communication issues first. Got any after-market devices attached to any data bus in the car? And as has been suggested in the other thread, check all the ground connections and other wiring disturbed during the engine swap. |
I am wondering if you have DME issue due to water infiltration. We've had a lot of rain prior to this snow. Is it possible the area housing the DME flooded due to clogged drains? Have you had a look?

Thanks for the response. Maybe I misspoke with the key/ews sync. I meant the DME/EWS. I am going to go over the wiring again. Wondering if I missed a ground somewhere. I can connect to most modules in the car. But without being able to access the DME, I am dead in the water. There is nothing connected anywhere that I am aware of. When I purchased this car with a blown engine, I did attempt to crank it and it did try with current keys. So, something has become out of sync since engine swap. And I guess I will have to take a crash course in the "bus" terminology/function.

Dme/key/ews are factory matched. Did you swap DME with engine?
|
Nothing changed at all other than the engine. That is why I find this so perplexing!

Than sounds like a plug isn't fully connected somewhere or coincidentally something broke.
Does engine turn no spark or just dead key no activity? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
I am going to re check wiring, but it is pretty cut and dry. Engine does not turn. Starter is fine. The key turns on all electrics, but is not allowing the DME to recognize something and nothing happens! These things are electrical nightmares. All I did was disconnect the battery last spring, removed old engine, put in a different one and hooked everything back up. Now we have a major computer malfunction....

Feels like a fuse situation. You have i6 or V8? The 8 has a power supply inside the ebox with a fuse or two. Unless you can get the fox to see the DME, it's not likely the rest of the car will see it either.
