TIP for easy access to back of engine
 

You all probably already know this, but somehow I didn't learn this until my 3rd E53 :dunno:

Two nuts (one holding the battery cable to the jumpstart lug and the other similar one on the passenger side), and the whole heater cowling comes off. Let's see - wish I knew this when doing VCG, spark plugs, exhaust manifolds/HEADERS!

I wish the E39 used a similar set-up instead of those dumb bellows that you spin into location - an invariably break the tabs..

You have to remove this intake assembly to change the (engine) air filter on the 3.0d so this "tip" is well known in the diesel circles! ;) :thumbup:
