Secondary air pump dead
The pump was whining a bit each morning for a while, then today I started it up cold to no whine but a CEL instead. I'm guessing the pump is dead and from the looks of it above, it's easy to replace. Am I correct?
The price of this part seems to be all over the place. Anywhere from like $60-400+. Is this one of these things that I should spend the $ on OE? I don't think so, but looking for others who have gone through it. The original lasted 220k so not bad I guess. |
I used a hand me down from a 5 or 7 series. Look for a reasonably young pull. It's pretty easy to replace if you open up the inner fender and access from below

I would look for a knock off with some good reviews and maybe budget $100-150 vs get the very cheapest. It only takes 3 drill holes to adapt the sap from 5/7 series of same vintage so if you can, say find an oem for a 5/7 series at a reasonable price I would do that. Less than an hour to swap and it's not mission critical. You can go for weeks with the sap SES you just will polutte mote while doing it.
