Seems that I will be joining the BC Racing Coilover Club...
Had an airbag die on me on the freeway this afternoon... managed to limp it home and when I crawled under there I could visibly see the split in the bag. Crawled over to the passenger side and I can see signs of wear on that bag as well. Won't break my heart any and I certainly am not a fan of chasing bag and system issues just to have self leveling (I never haul anything or have anyone in the back seat anyway) suspension so following Crystalworks and so many others lead, I think I am going to make the leap to BC Racing Coilovers.
Sadly... as my wife continued to remind me this entire evening, I not more than 3000 miles ago dropped a bit more than $700 bucks for new H&R Springs and Bilstein B6 Struts :( I haven't ordered anything yet, but I can't see not going with the BC Racing setup, anyone see any good reason not to?? |

Those are the ones, I-20-BR I think they are, $995, yep.
EDIT: HA - Yep, I'm slow.., yes, a grand is a great reason to stick with the bags for sure! That said, I'll replace both at the same time so it's looking like even the bags are going to cost me over $500, unless someone knows where to get good bags cheap? |

Genius! Guess I wanted to convert to coils vs really shop for rear bags... FCP Euro has them and the suckers are only a buck twenty each so for less than $250 I can throw both bags back on it... I swear I looked (I didn't say I looked hard) and I found them for $275 a bag, $550 a pair and was like, wellllll :D Damn... now I actually have something to think about. |

Everyone seems to give positive feedback on the Arnott airbags.

My reason for switching was not the bags. But more the management of the bags. The ehcII system is just needlessly difficult. Turned out all of my system was good. But the module is recording an erroneous number of offsets on the front left sensor which resulted in front sag after a full day of sitting. Replaced sensor, same reading. Need to reset the offset in the module but lacked ability to do so.
I am now comforted that everytime I go out to the truck it is sitting at the same ride height I parked it at. More comforted that it will not drop the front while driving at any point. I miss the function of ehcII, as I used it every time I drove/parked the truck. But I don't miss the headache and worry. Each owner will have to address their situ. But so far I am happy I switched to the bcr coilovers. |
coil overs on an X5 is a disgrace haha.

I swore up and down by the air suspension until I started reading what can go wrong with it. I wish I had the patience/software to troubleshoot it, as I used it all the time. :dunno:. The truck handles better now than it ever did, but obviously has lost some of its versatility. Each owner has their own choice to make. |
