Wheel Refinishing
I have an appointment next week to drop my OE style 87 wheels off for refinish / powdercoating. The previous owner had them done in black which I am not a fan of and are in pretty bad shape paint wise. I am leaning towards BMW Silver which I'd think is the original silver if not the closest to it? Anyone have any experience in this department? This will be my first time having wheels refinished...

When I got a set of OE BMW wheels repainted locally, the body shop said there was a specific paint code for BMW wheels. He claimed to have bought the paint from a BMW dealer. It sounded strange to me and I am not sure if that was true but maybe worth asking at a friendly dealer?

May be we can we swap? I have OEM 87 silver original color and I've been considering having them powder-coated to gun metal black.

What an eyesore! Yeah, there's a local wheels repair shop that can sandblast then powder-coat my 87 to gun metal black for $200 a piece.

I am getting that done for an even better price. I will post back when they are finished. We will see how they come out. They do look awful but the X is currently on style 275 with winter tires since purchasing...

$125/wheel is standard here. Had one of my Dad's 19's done recently to fix a bent OE wheel on his 535d.
Those are going to look awesome no matter what color you go with. Unless black. Don't go with black. |
Most new cars nowadays come with black wheels. I dig them. Saw a silver E53 with black style 87 and it looked incredible. Mine is silver and would like the same look. My F86 is white with black wheels and looks awesome.
