hi, Having a similar but related problem on my 4.6is, spent about 30 hours troubleshooting and diagnostics but I can't pin point a mechanical vs a electronic error and can't find what's causing the code and failsafe program.
00008D IKE: EGS signal line disturbed

https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...-replaced.html

What is worse, we have about 20 different threads of this error code on various BMW forums, across several languages and wait for it... spent many hours trying to find and search this code. i haven't seen any shred of proof of a definite cause, explanation, and solution.

not one owner came back and reported the exact cause and what they did to fix it... they ended up by changing a lot of parts until something worked but they didn't know what it was. ?

one guy said weak battery or alternator output. if your EGS module sees less than 10 volts on crank it can cause the code. but in my case, i pinned the input voltage right at the module and my cranking minimum was 11.8 volts or higher.

@aureliusmax

Thanks for that link...nice info from RRPhil.

At the moment I can't do diagnostic due to PT Can down.

I'm just disconnecting module/s to find the culprit.

My Inpa and BMW scanner won't read anything ....don't even know where and what module to pull-out and replace.

I'm checking Ground Point Connections as of this morning.

If you have a scope you can connect it to the DLC link under the dash. You can connect to pin 6 and 14 on the DLC connector and observe the scope. Here's a video on what I am talking about.

You may be able to find a mobile mechanic such as Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostic (see his youtube channel) that has the equipment and knowledge to help you with diagnosising your problem.

Here's how to test the CAN with just a volt/ammeter.

Thanks @upallnight for video links!

Once I finished and happy with grounding ....It'll be my next move.

Scoping the Canbus.....thought I could get away with it by process of elimination/disconnection.

Just letting you know....No fix yet :(

Been doing a whole house renovations....

Wifey wants the renovations done asap....she said no budget for toys this year!...(yes dear:rofl:)

X5 is currently in storage and I just don't have time to sort the issue.

I will be looking into it getting sorted maybe around October - November...

and was forced to selling two of my other project cars due to space :thumbdown

I may not be here for awhile...but will try to check-in.....whenever the wifey is not supervising me!

:D

I have also had this same issue on my 05 4.8is. Driving uphill at about 70kmph and switched to TFS mode, thishappened to me twice. Luckily I always carry my foxwell in the car and I managed to clear (most) codes on the roadside and carry on my way.

I have since changed my transfer case actuator (I already knew this was faulty from testing) it could be totally unrelated but it hasn't happened since (the TFS error that is)

I still have the EGS line disturbed error though and I know I do have issues with my EGS module - Sometimes this just returns no comms from the foxwell scanner and INPA. I also have an issue with my TRS which intermittently wont allow the car to start in park but switching through the gears and resting back in N fixes this.

I believe on our models both the EGS and TRS sit inside of the transmission so you will need to drop the transmission and open it up to replace/investigate either of these I have read in a few places that the EGS modules can be a bit iffy so that's what I'm going to blame.
