Another head unit/Radio question

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before but I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer.

I know I can upgrade the head unit to an android unit etc but my question is,

Can or has this been done independently to bypass the BM54 module, could it be wired up with an independent power supply and wired directly to the speakers in the dash?

Thanks in advance [emoji4]

Anything can be done if desired. A radio only requires 12v constant (memory), switched 12v, and ground technically. Is there a reason you don't want use a harness and integrate that way?

Yeah, technically I know it can be done, maybe the question I should have asked is do the speaker wires go to the plug on the back of the head unit or does everything come from the BM54 unit?

The reason I want to change is that it's too unreliable, my radio/CD changer only has sound when the car has been running for maybe 20 minutes.

My X5 also has an LPG conversion with the tank in the spare wheel well so getting to the unit is a bit of a pain, seemed like an easier option to bypass it all together unless I'm missing something?, that's why I asked on here, I'm a new owner you guys are the experts.

Gotcha. Speakers are all handled by dsp, hifi, and/or bm54 unit. Only way speaker wires would be behind the dash unit is in the case of base audio being equipped.

If your X did not come with factory navigation, you won't need to go to the rear for anything other than a backup cam. Everything is plug and play up front behind the radio/CD.

Is a non-nav head unit also referred to as bm54? I assumed nav when he said he had the radio unit under his lpg conversion.

I guess you're right. I saw radio/cd changer and assumed he meant radio/cd player. I'm still not sure I would run a stand alone android system, I mean where you you even mount it? :dunno:

I'll have a look and report back.

Again apologies for the poor description, new owners eh!! Lol

I assumed (never assume) that would be the problem from Googling the answer.

I would buy and mount it in the same position as the standard unit as many on here have done before.

I'll take same pictures and report back later,

Thanks very much for the help so far guys [emoji41]

OK so this is what I have

Head unit, CD changer and Satnav, also spoke with the previous owner today who said he removed the fuse for the satnav as it was draining the battery because the car wasn't in use very often.

And I've also just noticed the rear parking sensors aren't working [emoji30]

Any thoughts on how to proceed? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5fcd1c36b6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1d52a15b53.jpg

Yes, you will need to run the cable from the new android system to the back where all the connections to the BM54 are. Plan on a solid day routing the wiring, there is some great information here on the forum and a solid video to watch is https://youtu.be/D1gV5QHJRs8

And a good thread to read https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...ideo-link.html
