LWR LCM

Im trying to do an LCM IV upgrade on my 02 4.6 but I am not sure which of the many modules I can go with. I see w/auto LWR, W/manual LWR and one without LWR. I currently have an LCM3 but I couldnt tell you which version I have until I remove it. Can someone that may understand how LWR works explain what the difference is between the different types of LCM4 modules to choose from? I can choose the obvious latest version for my model per realoem.com which would be 6961141 but can I also use for example 6961140?

Do you have xenon or halogen lights? Halogens have manual leveling which is done by LCM. Xenons have auto leveling by separate LWR module. On newer models with LCM IV even auto leveling is implemented in LCM, no separate LWR module.

I have an 02 4.6iS with Xenon non adaptive headlights. I have retrofitted a 6961141 w/ manual LWR LCM4 to my E38 with xenon headlights and for the auto headlight feature and the additional bulb check options. I also retrofitted a 6960253 without LWR to a friend's E38 with xenon headlights as well and they have been fully functional. I copied this info from terraphantm on another forum who is very knowledgeable on most BMW electronics of this generation.

"If you code it for your car with NCS Expert, it will set everything in the module appropriately. For LWR specifically, pre-2003 cars need "LWR_AUT_EXTERN" to be set to aktiv.

LCM III cars use a separate module, and that module still works fine with an LCMIV - the LCMIV's internal circuitry just won't be used (and you can therefore use a non-LWR LCM IV on pre-2003 E39s). 2003 E39s came with LCMIVs and have the sensors and motors wired directly to the LCM instead of the separate module - those do require an LCMIV with LWR built in)."

I am under the impression I should have the same results with a 6961140 without LWR on my x5 as well even though realoem shows the correct one to be 6961141 which is manual LWR.Attachment 79636Attachment 79637

I think pretty much every LCM 4 version should be compatible with your vehicle when it has separate LWR module. Of course coding is needed but no special hardware requirements.

Ok good to know! I scored one for $45 on eBay and will retrofit it when I get a chance and report back my results.

Finally got around to doing the LCM IV retrofit. No more flashing LEDs! For some reason even after coding it to my cars ZCS, it threw a potentiometer error. I looked closer into the modules coding and disabled manual LWR that for some reason was set to aktiv by my ZCS.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...baec08b6b5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...da05664684.jpg

Anyone do or know of someone who does remote coding?

I’ve installed a nice NCS package but I’m getting lost when trying to code.

Is there any benefit upgrading to IV w auto LWR if right know I have LCM III and xenon lights?
Will the IV module provide anything extra?

The IV allows more control for LED light errors (example - license plate lights)
