Yaw Rate Sensor readings in Park
 

I'm trying to diagnose a yellow trifecta issue. My code reader shows an error for yaw rate sensor and lateral acceleration sensor.

With the X5 running and in Park, this is the live data that I pulled:
Rotation Rate: -68.7 °/s
Transversal acceleration: -22.7 m/s^2

I just want to make sure that I'm understanding these accelerometers correctly. They both should read 0 units when I'm in Park on level ground, right?

Based on this data I've ordered a new sensor. I just want to make sure I'm understanding this sensor correctly.

I would guess you are correct. Should be 0.xx. Go for a drive and watch the sensor values, they are probably frozen at the numbers you are seeing.

Pretty sure the sensors like the ones on our phones are solid state nothing to freeze however they do need to be calibrated initially and when replaced. If they don't read zero when not moving I would try to recalibrate. If they can't, replacement is indicated.

Driving through this recent snow and -10°F temps has really motivated me to fix this. ABS and DSC sure would be nice right now.

I actually had this sensor out a couple of weeks ago because I wanted to inspect the wiring to the sensor and check part number. I gave it a little shake and it sounds like a ball on a curve, so mechanical and not solid state is what I'm guessing.

Yawn sensor.

ECS just emailed me that they can't get the sensor from Bosch directly any longer. The salesman at ECS told me that Bosch can only sell to BMW who will then sell to ECS and then finally me. Might change my order to FCP or BW. At least I get a cool free t-shirt and haribo bears with BW.

That's the worst BMW tax I've seen $272...... ~73% BMW tax :yikes:

I ended up buying the Bosch sensor from FCP.
I just plugged in the new sensor, went to the service menu and recalibrated all of the DSC sensors and.... I still have the same errors. What have I done wrong? Live data in park after calibration still has strange values.

Does the yaw sensor need to be coded to the car?

When was abs last working? Did you gave any other codes first?
