Stalling Problem
Hello everyone.
After getting little use over the lockdown period, I started using the car again. I have an 05 4.4 with the N62 engine. Idling was a little rough but put that down to not being used often. After a couple of days, I noticed the car trying to stall whilst at junctions. Eventually it did stall a few days in. Restarted straight away, but the following day it stalled, and threw the Transmission Failsafe Warning up. Left it half hour & warning remained on, car then wouldn’t start. Called out the RAC and upon their arrival just oven an hour later, the car started up right away. He did the diagnostics and the following codes came up:- Name: EOBD DTC: P0347,Camshaft position (CMP) sensor A , bank 2 - low input DTC: P0335,Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor - circuit malfunction DTC: P0340,Camshaft position (CMP) sensor A , bank 1 - circuit malfunction DTC: P0021,Camshaft position (CMP), intake/left/front , bank 2 - timing over-advanced / system performance. I drove it half a mile to work, where it has since sat as I don’t want to drive it and risk it cutting out again. Any ideas welcome before I get it taken to the garage for them to run tests? |

Cam sensors are the usual culprits and more often than not you'll get the symptoms without having a simgle code.
Miles on engine? Original CPS? OEM grade CPS? Only use OEM cam sensors or you will have mystery headaches. When mine and then wife's intake CPS failed, we had occasional codes but none were CPS related just random cylinder misfire etc. |

108k on clock I’m presuming the Indy put OEM sensors on when the Vanos was done. Crankshaft & Camshaft sensors were all replaced. I’ll be taking it back to the same garage so they should know what they’ve used |
Ween i did chain guide plus vanos refurbish on two m62s, we reused all the sensors.
We got cam related errors one of which was near identical to yours and confirmed with real-time tracking. We had a third motor we cannibalize for a replacement and the problems went away. Slow responding vanos can also be oil pressure related and I've seen that issue go away when changing the oil filter on my wife's car and when I changed the oil filter cap on a client's car. (The basket that holds the paper filter was no longer solidly fixed to the cap) |

Stalling on a computer-controlled fuel injected engine is usually a result of the mixture. If I had to guess the CCV diaphragm is probably torn and unmetered air is entering the engine.

When my siphon tube o ring was going bad on the 2001 m54, I got similar codes. I believe the expert has been replying to this thread. Could that be a possibility here?

Not a siphon problem unless below about 1/3 tank also of you hit the limit the car won't drive away nicely. If you get a restart it'll stall again shortly after.

O2 I went though hell for over a year with non OEM, they are so easy to change pre cat I took a gamble on 1/4 the price. Not worth it get Bosch. I ended up cycling though knock off for all four on my X5. Wife's is overdue for changing them all out I will get bosch |
