Just use the fuel the engine was designed to run. If the manual says to use regular purchasing premium is a waste money. If the manual says use premium that's what you should be using.

The manual says use Premium.

My fuel door says it also however I suppose it also depends on what is classified as "premium" fuel around your neck of the woods.

Manual says 91 octane which is premium for me.

I don't know much about the topic but from my understanding even though the knock sensors are there for a reason and can compensate, wouldn't the engine prefer not to deal with that? :dunno:

I've used several different cables and have seen no difference between a cheap INPA K+CAN K+DCAN off Amazon and something more expensive.

The FT 232 chipset is the standard

91 is premium here as well. Seems to me if BMW says to use 91 they did so for a reason. The manual doesn't say go ahead and use regular if you want, but you'll get better performance if you use premium. It says use premium.

I made the mistake of asking the regular vs. premium question when I got my first BMW.

The helpful responses included:

"If you're worrying about .25 cents more a liter then go buy a Honda"

"Read the manual"

"You can do whatever you want with your car"

"I get better mileage with premium so it offsets the cost"

From my personal experience when I was working as a courier and putting about 300km a day, my M54 mileage was slightly worse with regular fuel.

Although not the most scientific method but I keep meticulous fuel records and after about 40,000km in 6 months using premium, every time I filled up with regular I would get about 50km less.

Maybe it was in my head but it also didn't feel as smooth under hard acceleration.

I'm not talking out on the track, more like stomping on the gas to pass that prick driving the John Deere harvester at 25mph kicking up rocks at you from the unpaved shoulder on a single lane country road...

My butt dyno tells me it runs better on premium as well.

So none of you have used this Dinan Kit?
I wonder if its just smarter to get a local one, as one local tuner was advertising a 4% gain in both TQ and HP... but most importantly its to get this stuttering at 35-45 km/hr figured out first.

Got mines today for the 4.6. Install is quick.
Seems snappier. Really loves at home at higher speeds. Have to use cruise control to keep her at 80.

I’ve not tested the increased rev limiter (to my knowledge) didn’t really look down nor top speed limiter. Lol.

Idk man. I may go for the TCU update, but she rides so nice I’m just happy using her on weekends. Man that sound borderline harassing. lol.

Great to hear you installed it and have a liking for it.

on the X-Outpost FB page, there is a topic about some xHP Flashtool app or software or upgrade to something, that is all the rage, but seems to have something to di with Dinan OR Stage 2 adn Stage 3 updates, to the tranny. I'm not making much sense of it currently.
