Mine is a 2005.

Thank you for getting the part numbers.

crystalworks 07-12-2021 01:20 AM

Here are the part numbers for the service (I pulled them using a 2005 4.4i w/ a manufacture date of 3/2005):
  • Tube seal - 24107519314 (x2)
  • Tube seal - 24107519315 (x1)
  • Tube seal - 24107520715 (x1)
  • Mechatronics Sealing Sleeve - 24347588725 (x1)
  • ZF Trans pan/filter service kit - ZFS-1068298084 (x1)
  • Transmission pan bolts - 24117552348 (x21)

The trans pan/filter kit comes with a mechatronics sleeve but I ordered an extra one (~17) because I had a bad experience once while replacing one and was forced to wait for another parts order when my new replacement didn't want to cooperate. An entire service (including Valvoline Maxlife Multi Vehicle ATF) ran me ~$250.

Wow, that's a lot of parts. Good maintenance pays off in the long run. The local shop is so cheap, I will take it to them. It's a GM trans so parts are plentiful. I can do it, but prefer not messing with all the oil.
I might do the transfer case annually. Or every 10,000(?) miles. City life is hard on oil.

I am just starting to have the hard shift on an incline and am ready to do the service. CW, I was wondering if you have ever messed with the bridge seal in the valve body? Part #24347588727. I suspect the body will have to drop from the transmission? And are you reusing bolts from the valve body? I have a habit of replacing bolts wherever I work if they are sealed up inside?

We are getting ready to do the service on my daughter's e46 as well. My brother-in-law got his lift installed at the house and we are ready to put it to good use!

We are getting the parts from FCP and the kits they have come with Redline Fluid. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks, all!

I was having that same issue (and others, intermittently) until I did two things simultaneously;

- let the workshop do a proper refurb and replace the necessary seals (as Crystalworks said) - this was pretty expensive but I was getting all kinds of grief, like stuck in 3rd with Trans Failsafe warning... I knew it was time!!

- also as it settled down, keep resetting the transmission adaptation with INPA every couple of days. When I got it back from the shop it still made the occasional hard shift, so the combination of the two seemed to get it back as good as new

I forgot to add the bridge seal in that parts list. Will add when back in front of the PC. I've done this 3 times now and reused the valve body bolts each time. They are very low torque. Just follow torque procedure/order.

I can't really comment on the redline fluid. Only had it in the e70 for a short period and never while it was actually on the road. It's a good fluid though so I'm sure it'll be fine. Funny most the FCP kits I see come with liqui moly or pentosin.

TC oil is good for at least 100,000 miles... at least, the OEM oil is (BMW DTF).

Mine did the same thing. It mimics a transmission problem. Go underneath the car and check the axel shaft bolts.

It is common to rust then the break off. So when you start and stop the axel will roll and stop and rest on the next bolt. Its NOT the splines but the actual bolts. Mine was the passenger side.

My axel had rusted so bad they could not get it out of the hub so I had to get a new axel shaft and hub!!!

We live in Arizona. What is this "rust" that you speak of?:rofl::rofl:

Everything suggested is worth looking at, so when we have it on the lift I will take a look at the bolts.

Why I suspect it's the trans is because it really only happens on an incline and, fortunately, not very often. It hits HARD! :wow:

Cool. Thanks for the reply CW.

And you are correct. The kit uses ZF fluid. I was looking at the kit for my kid's car. Here is the one I plan on ordering:
