Question on Exhaust System part

Hi, can anyone tell me what this is please. Cylindrical unit with a plastic outer cover, which on my car is torn and coming away. Thanks in advance.

vibration absorber?

I looked on Realoem and found a vibration absorber for the E53's 3.0, 4.4. and 4.6. I personally haven't looked for one on my new to me 3.0i, but it's probably there. Here's how it's listed for the 4.6is:
