Broken ABS Module pin
 

Hi this is my first ever on a forum so I’m probably doing this wrong:dunno: but,
I own a 2003 x5 3.0i and I have the dsc triangle, amber abs and red brake light. I did some research on here and found that the abs module is usually the problem so I went and checked that and low and behold I found a pin that was bent all the way to the bottom. So I tried to straighten the pin but ultimately I failed and snapped it in half. Ever since that I haven’t noticed a change with the car so I’m guessing that that pin was the one causing some of the problems I have yet to check the sensors which will be what I’m doing because I’m 98% sure the reason the brake light is red is because the brake sensor but I’m also going to test speed sensors. I saw that people were sending in their modules to get rebuilt I was wondering if that is really necessary for me since I suspect that the module itself is in good condition but I have yet to do any tests on it because I’m not sure how to test the module itself(I know how to test the sensors). I have never used a solder but I bet I could learn quickly since I have one and have some extra electronics laying around to practice. I just wanted to see if this was a good idea or even possible.

I'd suggest heading to the junkyard and getting an extra plug off an ABS sensor wiring section and see how to dissect it to get the pins out. You should have enough pins to get the job done. I'd speculate the trifecta is not due to the ABS module at all.

Well it’s the male connector that has the broken pin not the plug itself, and if I checked all the sensors and those weren’t the problem would it be the abs module

You could probably solder in a jumper wire to by-pass the broken pin but sounds like that's out of your wheelhouse (and from what I've seen on a video might be likely that you can cause more damage to the fine wires if you open up the module) so maybe take it to a mechanic if you have a good one nearby or maybe send the module in fior rebuild??(I have no experience with that so maybe someone else can chime in on doing that.) You can't assume that the module is causing the trifecta but the broken pin needs to be delt with either way.

You might check what the broken pin is for as well, small chance it might be something redundant or not critical but it would be interesting to know.

Like said check the pin number of that damaged one.

Oh wow so it’s just the can-bus lights does that mean all my systems work?

If there is still half of the pin left it could just make contact. Check trouble codes with diagnostics if the actual problem even has anything to do with CAN-bus.

I don’t have a diagnostics tool just an obd2 scanner

You can jumper around with just telephone splices no solder needed

Red brake usually means low fluid or hand brakes engaged.

You need a proper scanner such as foxwell to diagnose abs.
