Even though Ucrew and JV got them long time ago, the chrome ring mod peaked my interest since Michelle & SG got them.

I have a 2001 X5 3.0i which has the simple 4-function OBD and the simple pixel cluster (the one that DOES NOT burn out pixels, unlike the 8-function ones).

Check out the pic with gauge cluster removed and see what is behind it in the dash....dang, look at the tubular steel frame! :wow:

Anyhow, the difference with my instrument cluster is that it has two connectors in the back....otherwise, the install is the same. Here are the pics....(dang, my X5 has gotten some nice gifts: Bluetooth, Chrome Rings, and RE Camber Plate install today!)

Sounds like you had an easy time with your install, Doc. Hope you like the new look!

That's the spirit, doc!! Can't let the chick and the garage queen one-up you on the mod list  (j/k Michelle and Greg, you know I love you both :kissass: )

I've always wanted to do this mod; but after doing this on my old car and always having to take it apart to remove dust particles every so often. I just don't want to take the chance. Good job.

Once you do this mod and then seal it back up, I think it's pretty tight - I don't think it would let any more dust in than it already does (which is pretty much nothing). I'd say go for it!!!!
