Mine did the same thing until I added some Liqui Moly MOSO4. Still ticks if I let sit a few days without starting it.

It's pretty harmless to have the "lifters" tap a little while oil pressure fills them up.

The check valves hold oil in the head which helps a bunch but longer wait between starts will cause more tick of course

It will only usually present on a cold start. In my car with m54 motor, my oil level sender was broken so i never got a low oil warning. 5-6 second tick at cold start was my warning.

The lifters are filled with oil pressure. When oil is low it makes a little less oil pressure and takes longer to build so the lifter tick lasts a while when cold engine.

It's mostly harmless. Engine is not under load.

Is this even after you used 5w-40 Castrol Euro oil (IIRC, you're using it, same as me)?

Also, do you mean LM MOS02, not 04 (which I can't find listed in their product line)?

My engine presently doesn't have much of a tick at all, but at 212k miles, it sure couldn't hurt to have that additive ready to add at my next oil change.

LM MOS02, yes, I'm running Castrol 5/40 A3/B4. Keyboard has sticky keys today. :bustingup

I just did an oil change. I can tell the difference between a 5k mile and fresh oil engine sound. The M54 responds so well to fresh oil.

It's more to with fact you are adding some fresh oil which helps rather than the level being down a bit.
