What windshield washer grommet???

My windshield washer reservoir is leaking at the pump grommet. I THOUGHT this was going to be an easy fix. I've ordered three different grommets and they are all 1/2 the size of the hole they are supposed to fill. I even tried ordering by the part # on realoem. Does anyone have a lead on this?

Reuse the old one with loads of ptfe plumbing tape around it.

Won't even need "loads" use fasttape by oatey. It's 3x as thick. I've used on fuel pump siphon, lower radiator hose, DISA valve seal. It would for sure fix anb undersized washer grommet as long as it's got integrity other than being small.

Well... I've done some checking... It appears that this grommet is one that they only used on the e53, and they've discontinued it. Realoem shows it being used on practically every BMW from that time, but they are wrong - in a way. The part# that superceeds the big one is, indeed, the small grommet. And a search in thr junkyard shows that the small grommet is used in all of the other models. Urotuner was the only one that showed the old part number, but they couldn't even get it - nice guys by the way.

I think I'll stop by the stealership today just so they can look down their noses at me. It should be fun. Other than that, I guess I'm relegated to try fixes that I would normally classify as "janky."

Less janky is using heat shrink tubing. It wont bind and shift around while trying to push into the hole.

Teflon[emoji769] wrap is less janky than junkyard part that will by definition be at least 19 years old!

I'm going to try the heat shrink. I have some with the adhesive on the inside. I'm thinking I can double that up and use some black RTV and maybe nobody will notice.

Might have better luck with the shrink on the pump tube than on the od of the grommet but if you have both sizes both might work great.

I used Teflon[emoji769] (fasttape) on my radiator outlet sensor as a "temporary fix" to get me home but it lasted five years (never failed up until car was "totalled" by insurance).

The heat shrink on the pump stem will work perfectly with the old grommet as long as it's not damaged somehow. No sealer, silicon or anything else needed inside or outside of the grommet.

I guess I need to eat crow... My local dealer had it. This is the headlight washer pump grommet...
