Very Sad day for the X !

Today was not the day for the X5.... as I was driving home from work, I felt that the steering wheel was getting harder and harder to turn.... And all of a sudden I lost my steering controls, well the power steering. I quickly pull into a nearby gas station and open the hood. Surprised to see that the Power Steering Belt was torn completly. So I immediatly call the tow truck to have it delivered to the stealership...It doesnt end here.... As the tow was lifting the X, the chain snapped and let the x5 go. It goes and its directly into the Wall. I was surprised of the durability of the BMW. Only the bumper and the grille were damaged. The Tow company said that they would pay for everything.... Ever since I got the X ive been have small problems with it. So im deciding on wether to get it fixed and keep it or get a '06 X5 4.4i ... What do you guys think ?

I know how you feel. Especially when so many thing happen at once. I just got my X back today and it seems like a magnet for people who don't know how to drive. I think small problems may be inherent to the beast though. Years ago someone warned me that is you own a BMW be prepared to spend some money for maintaince. My 87 735 did have one small problem after another. So what did I do? Went out and bought a 2005 X5. I guess I'm hoping for the best and should be getting an extended warranty. But you have to decide if the BMW experience is worth the cost.

It's such a give-and-take. Stressful errors or issues one week... then the X's commanding control during a downpour or other danger on the freeway the next- This ride's handling makes me more confident & comfortable than any other car I've driven, since it handles hazards like they're nothing, all with style & finesse... It's hard to imagine buying anything else in the near future for that reason.
Good luck with the repair & the decision.

Considering the tow co. picking up the tab to repair and repaint, you could probably resell your X5 for a good price. Question is, do you want to shell out the difference ($25-30K) for a new one. Make sure they repair it with OEM parts. I asked my dealer to recommend who to go to and made sure with the guy to do it right, not cheap.

Get it fixed regardless. Then make your decision.

Yeah tow trucks suck, when my mom's brand new Westminster Edition Range Rover with 400 miles on it got a flat my mom called a tow truck who forgot to tie the chain in the right part (only tied it to the front or something) and then before our very eyes there goes her brand new Rover off the truck (going 30mph) and onto the street, flipping over, and the verdict? totaled, stupid idiot that guy was

I am sorry to hear that If you can handle the cost get a new one.

Well, if your considering a 06' why not wait for a 07'? Then, you'll be driving the new body style.
