What brand garage door opener?

Trust me, it can be annoyingly hard to get done, and I got really frustrated trying to make it work myself. Finally, I found the info (much difficult Googling!!!), and made it into an article here.

Keep at it. It really is worth it!

One more thing: You have to turn the BMW key all the way to the position JUST BEFORE the engine starts. This is "position 2" in the Owner's Manual. This is not completely clear in the article's instructions.

Thanks to all for the helpful advice. I managed yesterday to de-program my handheld while still not getting the homelink to work. I got the learning light on the Genie Intellicode to flash once - raced to the X jumped in, turned ig on and pressed homelink button until it flashed and went out. Still no go. Now that I read on - rolling codes seems to be my issue!

I tried to find my Genie manual to learn how to de-activate the rolling code feature but cannot locate it. Anyone out there know how to de-activate?

At first I was willing to live with the handheld, and now it's a mission....

What a great forum - very friendly and helpful to newbies!

It works fine with my Genie rolling code unit.

Verify that the Homelink has learned the remote code and frequency by pressing the Homelink button. Does the light blink rapidly for 2 seconds then stay on? If it blinks slowly then it hasn't learned the signal from the remote and you must program it again.

If you need to retrain the Homelink use fresh batteries in the remote, it makes a difference. It's best to completely clear the Homelink again by pressing the 1 and 3 buttons simulateously for 20 seconds until it flashes. You cannot reprogram just one button, you have to clear them all first.:tsk:

Check your Genie manual. It sounds like you cleared all the accepted remotes from the opener unit. Verify that your original remote still works before reprogramming.

Don't give up. It took me a dozen attempts before I got it to work for the garage door at work because it was some weird frequency only used by commercial units.

Thanks for your posting, it worked perfeclty. I spent 2 hours following BMW and Homelink instructions before reading your experience.

Just in case someone still has trouble, this worked well and I got it done the first try.
