Bluetooth problem in 2003 X5 resolved
 

I just resolved my problem with my 2003 x5 that had a CPT-8000 phone originally installed, and thought others could use the info. Seems the wiring on these is quite a bit different then what the pairing cradle and ULF is expecting. Basically, it would not charge nor enter pairing mode.

So, on the pairing cradle side of the connector, you should have 4 wires. Move these four wires to the following pin locations within the connector.
Brown - Pin 2
White - Pin 7
Green - Pin 9
Red - Pin 10

Hope this helps those that have had problems with similar setups.

Oh man, I'm not even sure I want to attempt Bluetooth in my '01....sounds like its a mess....

Chris, I did the retrofit using the AdvancedAutovations kit and it was plug-n-play. The only challenge was having to remove the console to extend the wiring up to the armrest. If you previously had the CPT7000 or CPT8000 phone systems installed, the wiring will already have been extended.

Moving the wires from one pin to another. OK, what's involved in that? Is it simple enough to pull it out and push it back into another pin? Finally, how do I know the numbers of each of the pin locations on the connector? Is it stamped onto the plastic?

Before you start removing pins, use your multi-meter to check if you have voltage across the pins identified above.

As for removing pins, there's a trick to it but it's not that difficult to figure it out. See page 21 on this document for some examples - http://www.tvonnav.com/manuals/TVonN...anual%20v4.pdf

The numbers for the pins is stamped in the plastic (get out the magnifying glasses :wow: )

Hang on a second. Before I rip out the pins, I want to make sure it is necessary. The post at the top mentions that the phone would not charge, but it also would not pair. I have never had a problem pairing the phone. But I guess that could be due to the other (blue) wire. Guess I'll move the pins around and give it a shot.

Pretty simple. You'll see the numbers printed on the connector. if you look at the side of the connector you'll see a silver tab. Use a small screwdriver and press that in while gently pulling the wire, it will pull right out.

regarding the not charging. Check the ground - Brown wire. My guess is that it is connected to a blank on the other connector. If you are pairing fine then leave the green and white wires alone. Red is power, and brown is ground - these are the only two you'll need to mess with. Also, on the car side of the connector, pull the cover off and see what you are connecting to.

Thanks. Got the pins out with ease and tried the setup mentioned above, but it still didn't work. I guess I'll mess around with it for a while trying some different combos with red and brown.

Are you getting 12V from the vehicle?

I am getting power on pins 2 and 5. Of course, the multimeter leads are a bit too big for the small pin holes, so I had to use a couple of small paper clips. There is definitely power.

It is probably a bad snap in adapter.
