Growing Up The Hard Way.

I think the bottom line is that you should be able to get the tickets reduced with a lawyer and a little luck.

But, you must of really step on it, to cause the cop to stop what he was doing and go after you with such vengeance. Next time I think you will know better.

Going to fast around a bend. and 3. speeding he "PACED" me(if any1 knows whut that means...HELP) he said i was going 62 in a 40........meanwhile that 10 points ...and i have a junior lisence...which means it gets taken away...i think he was just trying to intimidate me and made up bullshit charges against me...any1 have advice...?

You drive a 4.8, you can afford a lawyer. He will make them go away or greatly reduce them. And show in court looking good. White shirt, tie etc. Yes it matters.
Good Luck

I've got three questions..... but from your post only one partial answer.

1. DID you pass the officer closely (considering you only slowed to the MAXIMUM speed limit). I'm assuming you saw his flashing lights and had plenty of warning..... yet I can't understand why you didn't slow to 30 if it was close?

2. What was the speed limit for the bend you went around and were you exceeding it....

3. What speed were you doing? 55 was before and/or after?

Look, we have all done stupid things, but not slowing down and taking a safe line (ie steer clear of the officer) when there are lawmen around, and then speeding up puts you in the fast lane to learning a hard lesson.

There is no reason to speed up so close to the law, a definate error of judgement.

And why are you trying to get off when you know you were speeding? So what if the law can't prove 62. You know you were speeding, so cop the fine and remember it.

Cops and people breaking down get killed because people don't slow down and show due care when there is a hazard.

My advice, be a man, learn from your mistake, move on. So many people get wrapped up in being right, especially when they know they are wrong. This can lead to a lifetime of denial. Pay your fine, walk or ride a bike to school, though many of life's real lessons are learned right there on the street. Your lesson should be; don't break the rules when someone who can enforce them is present, be mindful and respectfull of the law, and finally, own up to your mistakes.

Listen what you did was stupid. But ive done even stupider things. Get a good lawyer and youll be fine as long as you have a good driving record previous to this. He cant prove anything that he gave you a ticket for. Its his word against yours. Unless that cop got you with laser or radar it doesnt mean shit. I had a cop pull me over and said he paced me at something like 90mph. I went to court and said i was driving the speed limit. They let me off with a donation. Those other 2 tickets you got were bull shit too. The cop has no chance if you got a good lawyer. The lawyer will probably know the prosecuter too so you want even have to go in front off the judge. The prosecuter basically decides what happens to you .The judge does whatever he says 99% of the time.

Suck it up

I agree with a minority of posters above, in that it is about you, and your actions, not the tickets:
  • You admit you were speeding (before and after?)
  • You accelerated past an officer standing next to a pulled over car, enough to make him chase you
  • You acknowledge that your vehicle has a loud exhaust
Seems like bad judgement, compounded several times over. Unless you were actually harassed, take your punishment and hopefully you will learn from it and drive more responsibly when you get your license back. Getting tickets isn't harassment, it is an expected outcome to the actions you described.

You don't have much to complain about with being paced by the officer. he may have matched your speed, and used his calibrated speedometer to judge your speed. He also may have been accelerating towards you, and used his moving radar to calculate the speed difference. Either way, he has more weight than you do.

There are a some posters here suggesting how you can try and get out of what appear to be legitimate charges. That is shameful, IMO.

Seriously though. Do you think that kid paying all that money and loosing his license for a while and then his insurance premiums tripling when he gets it back are just punishments for what he did. What you never did anything stupid before? Listen the cop was probably having a bad day or was pissed off that a kid had a car worth as much as his condo. So he went apeshit and threw everything he could at him. Cops arent perfect. I know alot of them and the stories they tell me are shocking. It all depends what mood they are in if you are screwed or not. Tickets when it all comes down to it are about making revenue for the city. They dont care about anything else. And dont even get me started about the incentives that car insurance companies give police departments just to make sure they are giving out the quota of tickets that they want them to so they can over charge on insurance. Listen its all about money.
Get a lawyer kid and get out of this shit. im sure just going through this will teach you not to do it again. screw loosingyour license. Fight it.

Yes, if he was speeding (and he did say that he was). They call it the law of the land. I think he should confess to 55, and throw himself on the mercy of the court. Maybe he will get one of the tickets thrown out. Being contrite may help. But after all that, I hope that the vehicle is parked for a while, as it is a far more effective teaching tool than having parents pay tickets. Sorry, that is an assumption, but something tells me the 17 year old didn't buy his 4.8 from the proceeds of his paper route. I could be wrong, I have been before. Maybe he has his own business....

The above will make it safer for the rest of us on the roads, including my 17 and 18 year old daughters (who don't drive like this).

And it may be a small point, but do we need the foul language here?

Jeff

DINANM3 04-09-2006 04:05 PM

sorry about the foul langauge. No need for it. But i just dont think what he does was bad enough to recieve what tickets he got. He slowed down for the officer then speed up after he was past him So how would he be endangering the officer. And he was looking on but so does everyone else they call them rubber neckers. and 55 in a 45 im mean come on now. Who do you know that doesnt do 50 or 55 in a 45. When have you ever seen someone donig 45mph in a 45. The cop was just in abad mood and went over board. ive seen it and heard stories just like this before. Why could he had just givin him a speeding ticket. Because he wanted to make sure he could screw him as bad as he could. Cops arent always right you know.

JCL 04-09-2006 04:14 PM

Thanks on the language

The officer obviously felt that he had been put in danger. I don't know how close the X5 was to him, but it was loud, and accelerating past him. It was judged to be driven dangerously. Hard to say, I wasn't there. But it was a 40 zone, not a 45, so he was 15 over by his own admission, or 22 over by the officer's statement. Yes, lots of people go 10 or 15 over. I understand that, I just don't think they should whine when they get caught for it.

I don't think the police are always right. But I think they are right much more often than they are wrong. And given that we have only one side of a story, I see no reason to blame the police officer.

In my province, a provisional license for a 16-17 year old can be taken away for any moving violation, not just for 10 points, not sure about this area. I would think the license would be suspended for a period of time regardless, even if it was reduced to two tickets.
