Window regulators

So what's the deal with the window regulators? They replace defective ones with defective ones? I just had my drivers side rear one replaced two weeks ago and the window is stuck closed again....Arrgggh...Well at least it's not stuck open. How many has everyone else replaced?

X5Jay 04-17-2006 09:26 AM

Yours is the first face-lifted model I've heard of with defective window regs. I haven't had a problem with mine - yet. Any other post-face-lift window reg problems? GL w/yours Laura! What a pain, huh?

Maybe someone at the dealer just wants you to visit more....no window reg problems here at almost 20K. Sorry. And you'd think a driver's windoe would go first...Nothing less productive than twiddling your thumbs at the dealer.

Good point, I'd take bets on the sales guy. He sees me drooling over that 650 everytime I go in. I feel a test drive coming on...

Definately go for the test drive - can't wait to hear your report!

A few months ago I thought one of my passenger side window regulators had also experienced a repeat failure. But it turns out that one of the bolts holding the window to the regulator had come loose and caused a bind.

Hmmmm....maybe your sales guy has Munchausen Syndrome by proxy.

What about the switch in the door?--those can fail too.

The rear passenger window refused to go up but I forgot to ask what it was. I do know it stayed over night. I'll try to remember to go back in the records and look.

So if it's the switch on the drivers door, the window should work if I try the switch on the rear door?

I...think...so...is that a trick question?

I had the driver' door panel switch replaced in your favorite car, my V70R. 13 month's later it went bad again. Volvo got all knotted up about the finality of the warranty period, and the rest is hystery (sic).

Nice try, but you can scratch that theory. Switch from rear door doesn't work either.

Your UPS guy ever show up? I think he may be in cahoots with mine. They're having a party with my wheels and your valve caps.

L: You are in "the biz"...
beat on that BusterBrown guy!

Knock on freakin wood, but I
have never had a window glitch of
any kind in 4 1/2 yrs on my '01.

Mine must be an anomaly.

Same here, somehow....no window problems ever with our 01.

No valve caps, but UPS just dropped off a great set of rims and tires.

The Cleaner 04-17-2006 12:45 PM

BMW will tell you they are not defective. Fact is they are a poor design. Cable actuated lifters are smoother when they work, but prone to failure, especially if not used. To keep failures to a minimum wind the window down at least 2-3 times a week. This will help prevent the cable from getting a kink where the wheels are and cause the cable to jump and fail.

As for the window getting stuck up, that is probably the limit switch. Manually move the window motor and it should release the limit switch and window function will return to normal.

Edit, just tried for fourth time...no ticket, no entrance.
I give up for awhile.

Edit...I got it to load in the Gallery, but not into a post.

This is a stepped on copy of my rear 132 from the Gall.

Funny you should mention that. I always seem to ooops, drop something while I'm there.

My thread, so I can hijack. I'm waiting at a toll plaza Friday and an old guy in Porsche pulls up next to me and says. Why aren't you at the dealer, don't you know they released the M6 yesterday. Now that's what you should be driving.
