Dead Pixels

Hi guys

I have dead pixels on my obc, how can i fix that problem?? its like a a couple of verticle lines just dont light up... thanks

MrLabGuy 04-24-2006 02:00 AM

Always been a problem with the E39 and E53 5 series models. Some of the guys (one a lawyer) on another forum were able to convince BMW to pay for repairs outside of warranty but what they covered depended. Most were told to buy the part and BMW would do the install Free. Some got the entire unit replaced free and others got a 30% discount.

Most 5ers have gone through at least a couple and seems to be a design flaw. I sent mine to VDORepair who fixed mine for $199 and it has been fine ever since. They use better parts so it should last a long while.

Make sure you stress the safety factor. Seeing the pixel display is your warning information center. Mine was so bad the mileage was unreadable.

BMW replaced mine for free. Didn't even have to pay for labor. Took about 1 month from sending the initial email, to getting it taken care of. This is BMWNA of course, so YMMV.

Same issue with mine. My dealer replaced it under warranty, gratis.

I got the same problem right now. I had to send a letter to bmwna cuz the dealer is refusing to replace mine because they say that they dont make 4.6is instrument clusters any more?? as far as I understand the 4.6is and 4.8is share the same instrument cluster. let's see what they answer.. Im under factory warranty

WOW what a poor answer from bmw to my needs with the replacement of the instrument cluster..
Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding parts for your 2003
BMW X5. We appreciate your inquiry.

All BMW parts are ordered and purchased through the parts department at your
authorized BMW center. I am sorry, but we do not have direct access to parts
availability at this location. I would suggest speaking with the parts manager
at Braman BMW. The parts manager is in the best position to review and discuss
your concerns.

If you have any further questions, please respond to this e-mail or contact the
Customer Relations and Services Department at 1-800-831-1117, Monday through
Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time. Again, thank you for
