0-60
Is it possible that our 0-60 time would be faster with a second gear start? I'm asking b/c it seems that the 1/2 shift takes for ever, and ~65m/h is possible in 2nd.

the thought has crossed my mind before. and although 2nd pulls really hard from start, the fact is that 1st pulls REALLY hard.
so i'd say probably not. haven't really tested it speaking of which, anyone ever try the little timer on the OBC to test 0-60 lol?? being as honest as possible, i cannot get better than 7.1 or 7.2 secs. :( and i was hoping to at leats see 6.9 after the exhaust and intake lol |
Why would you hope to see sub-7 second 0-60 times AFTER mods when BMW advertises in its brochures 0-60 as sub-6 seconds STOCK? You wouldn't think that BMW would ever exagerate performance figures would you?

hahahha .................. yeah, i cannot seem to get under 6 secs :(

seasoned drivers? how much skill is required to launch an auto-tranny vehicle?! you step on the gas and hope you hit 60 in less than a certain amount of time!! :D
you either step on it and achieve that time, or you don't! there's no two ways about it!! |

Actually your wrong. The non valvetronic X5 4.4 0to60 times on BMWs website at the time was 7.5 seconds. In testing they usually hit a couple of tenths below that number. the new valvetronic motor does 0to60 in i believe 6.8 or 6.9 seconds as listed on there website. My personal best was a 6.6. also a 14.9 quarter mile with the same run.. Also BMW acceleration numbers given on there webite are usually very conservative. Often a tenth or 2 higher than what the car is capable of. When The E39 M5 first came out in 2000 i remember they listed it it as 5.0sec to 60mph. All the magazines were averaging 4.8 sec. In 2001 BMW changed the 0to60 time to 4.8sec. Ive always hit 4.8sec except one time with my M5 i did a 4.7. So actually your time is about right 0to60 in 7.2sec in a pre 04 4.4 X5 |
i believe drag racers/street racers use the brakes to spool up torque for a sling shot type launch.. that is left foot on brake, car in gear in manual 1st, right foot on gas up to 3-4k rpm... then let the left foot go to launch and smash on the right foot...
something like that... |
Any vehicle that gets to 60mph in under 8 seconds when weighing 5000+ lbs is okay by me :)
