Bi-Xenon failure (have posted this before)
 

I know i have asked this before but maybe more people can help me out this time :)




Hey I have a bi-xenon failure. My car is a 2005 X5. My car does have the adaptive headlight system(lights turn, when you turn)

The problem is: My passenger side projector at first, I noticed got stuck in one position, as in, the projector was pointed towards one side and would not move. I tried to correct it by playing with the turning knobs to correct it, but that did not work.

I left it like that, thinking I was going to get it fixed. Then a week later that same passenger side xenon went out!

Now my question is, if it was the adaptive light control module broke because of the projector being pointed one direction without moving, would that cause the light itself to go out? Or would it simply stop the function of the projector turning

OR did my actual xenon control unit(ballast) just break and that’s what I have to replace.


I know that my bulb is fine because I checked it on the driver’s side and it worked. Same with my igniter, I swapped the igniter from passenger side to driver side and it worked fine as well.

So its either the adaptive light control module or the actual xenon control unit (ballast)

What do you guys think?

Not to be obvious, but if it's under warranty, why not just bring it in and let the dealer figure it out?

it's because he had done something to the unit which makes it obvious that he had modded it, which would void the warranty.

I wish I could help you out Imola...changing the angel eye bulb to iBrights was a project for me...if you're able to change out the igniter, would you be able to change out the control module and the ballast? Looking on realoem.com, you have the drive alc (whatever that is) and the control unit to check. Have you checked to see if any of these units are the problem? The only other thing I can think of is that you fried the wiring somehow when you used the brighter bulbs. That happened to me on my old car...changed out the bulbs so that they were brighter and whiter...one side went out about 6 months in, the other one went out about 6 months after that; I ended up having to change the wiring because somehow they got fried. Hopefully that will give you some ideas as to what the problem might be. Good luck

The bulb would not have anythin to do with it simply because my drivers side is fine. And yes the only thing left to do, is to check the ALC(adaptive light control module) and the actual xenon control unit(ballast) but in order for me to check those, Id have to pull out the headlight which means id have to take off the bumper

OK I'll as the dumb question. It's an 05 it's under warranty, bulb and all right?

best thing to do. take the car to the dealer get a loaner while they fix the car.

Problem is dealer will not cover it under warranty because he modified it!

its the adaptive control unit that needs to be replaced for driver's side and the ignitor and ballast for passenger side i assume......dont take my words for it tho

If the control unit needs replacing only a dealer can do it as the computer will require reprogramming to accept the new unit. My LKM took about 16 hours of new program download. The OBD II is only a slow serial link!

Can't you change back to the stock and bring it in and tell them it went out? I had to do that alot with VW because they were being a pain.
Under common law; the dealership MUST prove that your mod was the reason for the failure. Although they most likely will blame it on your mod. But if you talk to the manager and have him give you substantial proof that YOUR mod was the reason for the the failure, than they must fix it.
