When was the last time you had the car aligned and the wheels balanced? I wouldn't take it to a dealer for any of that, find a good shop to go to...it will generally cost less. When the shop weights the wheels they will know if a rim is bent or not.

I havent done so in about a year or so...outside of the dealership. They recently replaced my steering rack and told me they did a full balance and alignment. That was about 1 month ago.

ewww. replaced a steering rack.....why? That may be the problem there. Especially if there were no issues prior to replacement.

This is from a post a while back for the steering rack...

So I brought my X in few days ago to get the rear brakes done and I off-handedly mentioned that I was hearing a clicking noise now and then when I was turning the vehicle in tight spaces...parking for example. They checked it out and indeed there was a problem apparently with the steering rack and they had to replace a few things:

Part numbers...
32-13-6-761-823 X5 EXCH. 32K3
32-13-6-761-823 CORE RETURN
32-41-1-093-596 SEALING R D8
83-22-9-407-858 GEARBOX 0 BULK
32-41-1-093-597 E32 GASKE D8

My question is was this a serious problem? If I hadn't noticed anything or mentioned to the dealer could this have become a larger problem? They seemed to think it was a big problem and it took them 3 days to fix

I must say though that the steering is tighter than ever before...feels kinda strange actually!

Do you think this could be from a bad install on the dealers part?

Well if you are having vibrations in the steering and they replaced the steering rack, I would have that checked first....possibly by a different dealer.

yes good idea. I am bringing it in next week so I will get it checked. Thx.
