Vibration

Anyone experienced vibrations through the steering wheel at highyway speeds?

I have been noticing a slight vibration on and off over 100kph.

Called my service guy and he told me that there is a good chance that my rims are bent...they look fine to me...is this possible?

Are there any other explanations?

Thanks.

The first thing I would suggest is take your X5 to a tire shop and check for wheel balance. How does it look fine to your eyes? An unbalanced tire cannot be seen by looking at it. Out or round tire would cause vibration at high speed as well. I do think there will be a very small chance of a bent rim, cross my fingers.
Good luck! :P

Right, sounds like a unbalanced tire. Sometimes a wheel will throw the balancing weight off causing the problem. If your tire balancer cannot find it, try moving rotating the tires to the back (assuming they are the same size) one at a time to identify the bad tire.

What I meant by fine by my eyes were the rims...not the tires. Thx for the info though.

Typical Stlr's knee jerk response, as dollar signs dance
in his head.

Check out tire bal, "round", wheel "round",
etc.

A wheel specialist with one of these, that cares what
they are doing, can lead you on right path or, at least
eliminate the variables.

Yes, even slightly bent rim will not be seen by eyes, a high-speed wheel balance will do the job. Tell us how you make out ok

Most tire shops aren't good at balancing the 20s. I had the same problem and I had to go to 3 different tire shops to get it balanced right!

Havent noticed it getting worse...its a relatively new problem. But now that you mention that I will check to see.
