New Windshield

I have a 03 4.6is that has a few annoying rock chips on my windshield that are right in the drivers view.Has anyone replaced there windshield? Please give me an idea of cost and are there any repercussions from doing this such as excess wind noise or is it as good as new.Any negatives to worry about? Thanks!

Check with your insurance for "Glass Coverage" as they may cover the cost. You could also look into going for the "Comfort Glass" if you are replacing the glass. Previous posts claimed it was only $40 more out of pocket.

if they are not to bad you can get fixed, i have a bullseye on the ferrari and had it fixed for $150 looked brand new.

How big are the chips? If they are smaller than a quarter, they can be fixed easily without changing out the entire windshield.

At the DC meet, JV hooked me up with this vendor who fixed 2 I had for less than $80.

I'm sure there are local companies that do the same.

The chips are not that big; they are like bubbles even though they are chips. They bug the shit out of me because they are right in the drivers view ;especially in sunlight.

I don't know about your insurance for replacement but I know that mine has a deductible that is probably a little more than the cost of a windshield so you'd probably be paying this whole amount out of pocket.

As far as windshield replacement tips, it is advisable to leave the vehicle for 24 hours after the new windshield goes in to prevent any gaps in the adhesive and thus, wind noise.

I had a replacement OEM windshield installed and it is just fine. I let my vehicle sit overnight before driving.

Just had my windshield replaced with comfort glass at the stealer: just over $1000!

They keep it for 2 days to cure the seal with heat, my insurance paid for it minus a $500 deductable.

Have to get the 330ci screen replaced next week, hope the insurance doesnt flip out with the similar claim so soon after......fucking big-rigs throwing rocks.....happened to me a few times on bay area roads.....

Comfort glass is nice though....be sure to ask for COMFORT Glass NOt Climate Comfort, thats a different deal. Good luck.....

Florida has a state law that mandates windshield replacement under insurance, with no deductible. In other words, insurance pays 100% of the cost, with no out of pocket costs to the insured. Of course, I am sure they make up the difference by increased premiums.

Still, it is nice to be able to insist on OEM glass. Had to have the wife's MB windshield replaced twice within a month, and never heard a complaint from insurance.
