I have the snowflake (compressor) on all the time, year round.
Do you get heat when the temp drops below the setting with the A/C compressor on? If not that certainly wouldn't work where I live.

Absolutely. I haven't had the X5 in Calgary, but I do spend time in the Kootenays, including Trail/Castlegar/Red Mountain. Same temperatures as Calgary.
