Yes, I thought about buying one, but I am selling this car and getting a new one, and hoped that I could get the light reset using this simple procedure. Why it won't work on my car, I have no idea...

Stop in at a BMW dealer. Many will do a reset for you free of charge if you ask nicely.

Jeff, Today was the first time that I got my reset lights to reset. I have been trying to do for a long time. I don't have the diagnostic port so I have to use the odometer buttons. It worked on the first try today!!!
