Resetting Service Light

Hi all, I followed the instructions on resetting the service light (jumping pins 7 & 19 on the diagnostic port) and all that happened was the temp. display changed from fahrenheit to centigrade.

I have a 2001 X5 4.4 with the diag. port - has anyone else found that some other combo of pins needs to be jumped?

Incidentally, I tried about 10 times using various combos of key on to acc. 1, acc. 2, different times, etc. but still no luck...

Any advice appreciated!

You might be able to go to adavanced auto or your local parts shop and they often times pull the codes and reset for free.

Jumping pins 7 and 19 on the diagnostic port under the hood has worked for me every time. The important thing with this step is to keep the short between the pins for the appropriate amount of time. 5 seconds for an Oil service indicator, and 10 seconds for an Inspection.

would this also work on a 2003 X5?

No, only the 2000 and early production 2001's had the diagnostic port under the hood. This article describes how to do a reset for the newer X5's - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...ts-bmw-x5.html

I have tried and tried to use the 7-19 pin jump method on my '01 4.4 and it just will not work. Anyone out there know what the other pins are for? Maybe on this one it is a different combo of pins.

I wouldn't start trying to jumper or short other pins without knowing what you are doing. You could end up damaging or blowing one of the computer modules and costing yourself a heafty chunk of $$. If you can't get the procedure documented in the article to work then perhaps you should consider picking up a reset tool - http://search.ebay.com/search/search...itle=bmw+reset
