Mobil's diesel engine oils are branded as "Mobil Delvac". They're primary diesel engine oil is "Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40" which they also "re-brand" as "Mobil® 1 Truck & SUV" (I've looked at the specs on both and they are identical).

Your BMW manual will provide an oil recommendation (Castrol). As long as the Mobil oil has the same API (American Petroleum Institute) classification as the manual states you'll be OK. The API classification for both of the above Mobil oils is: API CI-4 PLUS/CI-4/CH-4/CG-4/CF-4/CF/SL/SJ

ok, ok, you're messing this thread...

as i've read bmw uses the same oil in their petrol and diesel engines.. right??? :dunno:

try reading the diesel's owners manual and try reading/reviewing forums and ask about bmw's diesel engines....

It is best to do it at about 20,000 kms to coincide with the reset request of your oil service light. You and Eddieboy are the only ones on the same frequency as me!I mean,is it only us who read the owners manual??Why dont the others follow what is on the manual???It has even been said that "you cannot use same oil in Diesel and petrol engines".I BELIEVE THAT THIS SITE IS WHERE YOU COME FOR INFORMATION,NOT TO BE MISINFORMED!!!!!!

You do the oil change at 20,000kms because BMW RECOMMEND "LONGLIFE" OIL as per the manual.Petrol and diesel !Same specs for both!

Hi Eddyboy. We are really confusing you!Sorry!5W50 is the grade I use on my M3(Bmw recommended)! The grade recommended for the x5s is 5W40 which is a thinner/high temperature oil.I would say it should be fine to use 5w 50 but make sure it is synthetic based(most are anyway!).If it isnt LONGLIFE then you have to change it at about 10,000 kms.If you have doubts you can PM me,ok!
