2006 X5: 3.0 vs 4.4
So I am about to put in my order for a 2006 X5 (this week). We were set on the 3.0 until numbers were run and I can get the 4.4 for about 50 bucks more a month and an extra $300 down (this will be a lease). So now I am stuck. What are the pro's and con's of each (besides the 4.4 being faster!)?
I am ordering either with the following if it helps: sports package, premium package, xenon lights, cold weather package and navigation. (I tried a search on this but came up short, so I am sorry in advance if this was already discussed.) Thanks! |
Here's a few...
- gas mileage can be about the same if you don't mash the gas too much - you can order the 19's w/the 4.4 sport package - RPMs much lower on the highway - better looking exhaust tips (quads) - incredible passing power on the highway compared w/the 3.0 - I think there are a few other upgrades you get w/the 4.4 as well - take a look at the BMW web site - I just think the V8 makes the X feel like a much more "substantial" vehicle, if you know what I mean... I'm sure some folks here can easily come up with a few more... GL! |
I'm agree with everything X5Jay just mentioned. I've never driven the 3.0 X5 only a 3.0 x3. With all th power the 4.4 has to offer plus whatever options that come with it, I really can't settle for any less.

With the current V8 and it's fuel economy, which is basically that of the X5s existing I6, it's a no brainer to get the V8 if the cost difference isn't substantial. I saw an X5 with the new V8 accelerate on the highway for the first time last week..simply amazing.

Well i havnt driven a 4.4 but im sure its a lot faster than the 3.0. However im quite content with the 2006 3.0 I drive. For me the car is very powerful and fast, then again im nineteen years old and cruising in my dads X5. Not that many kids my age have that privledge. I love it.

Although I run a 3.0 diesel I would have to say go for the V8. A lot more car for not very much more dosh (money)

For $50 more it is definately worth it...

How about neither and wait for the e70...Orders shouldnt be that far away..Unless of course, you are specifically looking for an e53...

Being here in England I have gone with the 3.0d because our fuel prices are way high.
But, with the fuel prices in the US much lower, the petrol engine has to be the one to go for - personally, I wouldn't go for the 3.0 petrol (don't like the look of the exhaust tips etc etc) - with the small difference in price you are much better off going for the 4.4 V8 !! |
4.4 all the way.
