Also, if you are using Dinan's "manual mode", and you floor the accelerator without pushing the kick-down button, the Dinan auto trans software won't automatically upshift and yes, you can hit redline rev limiter and the tranny will NOT automatically upshift like SMG.

Now with gas prices going up and with more local traffic use of the X5, I could save a little more gas by dumping the Dinan Auto Trans software (thus, with stock programming, it will upshift sooner and at a lower RPM with part throttle conditions).

That's how I wish my transmission behaved! Although it may use a bit more gas, I think you'll dislike going back to "economy mode" - every time you drive around a corner or attempt a pass when you really miss those extra RPMs that you've been enjoying. I'd opt to keep it if it was me. Geez, I really wish there was something available for the 04+ 6 speeds... I've been hearing for almost 3 years now - Dinan's coming out with their new software "soon" or "in a month or so"... GL with whatever you decide!

re: '04+ 6spd - even BMW is still making updates on the tranny software - even my 11 week old '06 has an update scheduled at the dealer 7/5 - Dinan has the tough job of trying to write software compatible with software that keeps changing

Probably has no bearing on tranny failure....right?
