Well, the duty and or cost of a X5 in Norway, you don't wanna know, it's insane to tell the truth.
The new X5, are estimated to cost from aprx 900.000.-Nkr, that's over 110.000.- Euros, and in USD it's about 128.000.-
And that's the 3.0 base price...

So i think a facelift 3.0 are enough for me, (09.03---)
But to bad it's no diesel powered X5 in US.

Thanx for all the welcome's, nice to be here.
;)

As bad as it is in Norway - I think Denmark got it worse

When we got our X5 4.4i in the US i believe the final price was $58.000. Just for the fun of it I asked a dealer in Denmark for a price on the same spec - he came up with an offer of 1.500.000 danish kroner - that is about 255.000 dollars :)

To compare apples to oranges - you can buy a 3.000 sq/ft house in a nice neighbourhood in Denmark for 1.5m dkr :) To own a BMW X5 4.4 in Denmark is relativly speaking the same kind of investment as owning two ferraris here in the US - seeing how a 3.000 sq/ft home in a nice neighbourhood outside chicago is ~$450.000.

There are sensible means though - you can have the 3.0 dielsel as a 2-seater (van) for ~450.000 dkr (~$75.000) if you use it as a registered corporate car. How they get the thing turned into a Van is beyond me - but hey - it would be a nice van inded :)

Heh,

Yeah no country in the world has it as bad as Denmark ...

Its easy really, they take out the back seat, slap a metal floor all the way to the trunk, and put on yellow plates on it (that means its a loading vehicle and not a passenger vehicle)

Ron Jeremy: Wouldn't it be much cheaper to buy a diesel one in germany and just drive it to norway ??

I don't think cheap, is a word i would use in this matter
The thing is, a X5 is much cheaper in US, than in Germany, the marked is so much bigger, so one can really pick the "one", if you know what i mean?
;)
But then i'll have to settle for a 3.0i, which is not a bad alternative, but aftermarked for such a SAV in Norway is minor, our marked are screaming for a diesel engine in these kind of cars.
So i guess i'll wait for E70 to hit the marked, and then buy a facelift 04 model of E53.

Btw, Denmark and Norway have very similar, or shall i say, dumb taxes, so a SUV are suffering heavy because of this.
In Sweden, cars cost half of what it does on Norway and Denmark.
;puke;
