arm rest top storage bin use ?
 

In my 2001 X5, the top arm rest bit comes up to reveal 3 shallow areas for storage of stuff.

One of the sections is U shaped and has a spring loaded button thing at the back of it.

Anyone know what it is for ? No mention of it in the manuals.

I believe the U shaped channel and spring loaded button is for the old corded BMW phone. The channel is where the cord is stored.
