pre facelift removal of amber bits on front indicators lenses

I've had a look in the faq re this but no joy:

Have been thinking about a future mini mod despite me always liking the OE look on cars.

I have a prefacelift 4.4is with the OE headlamps which due to me having the sport pack have the so called clear front indicator lenses, however, I have noticed that the rearmost sections of the indicator housing end of the units incorporate amber reflectors.

I have the xenon option so more than happy with the efficency of the headlamps and not wanting to go for an angel eye conversion.

Despite this I cant help wondering if the car would look better with the amber reflectors removed and or possibly the indicators replaced with clear bulbs that still emit amber light.

Is there a diy mod to remove these amber reflectors from within the housing
(baking ?).

Can something else be put in their place in the form of a translucent clear reflective panel so as to allow amber light to emit from clear indicator bulbs whilst still allowing indicators to emit amber yet removing the amber look when lights not flashing and without replacing the whole unit ?

I must stress that i do not have the 100 % amber lenses as in the SE models mrely the small amber reflectors as incorportated in the housings on my prefacelift 2002 car.

Thoughts/ suggestions/ parts etc etc ???

Thanks

You already mentioned the only solutions unless you want to buy and install a whole new headlight assembly which would be pretty expensive. Many of us have baked the headlights, and removed the amber by using a dremel to take it out. You can then buy silver bulbs that blinks amber.

Most folks also add Angel Eyes at the same time since you're already taking the headlights out and baking them. Plus, thats an easy install and a DIY on the front page of this website.

Okay - I'm not fussed re the angel eyes but interested to know what the cluster looks like minus the amber lenses with clear bulbs as in my mind I think it may look too clear minus the reflectors if that makes sense . If you have a link to a pic or 2that would be great as i can compare to a facelift clear OE lens. Any link(s) to the dremmel reflector remove mod would be grerat.

thanks ever so much really appreciated

try this link: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...?highlight=dde

i have since changed the turn signal bulb from the silverstar (sorta too orangy for me) to the LED whites. looks better, but no pics handy.

Thanks for the link and info.

I am still undecided in nthe abscence of a clear reflective panel and lens to replace the amber section or the combined amber/clear section on the outer edge of the units.

i took mine out. see my custom x page. there is really no light that passes on this small amber portion, behind it is a part of the chrome housing inside, so taking this out does not expose the turn signal bulb

thanks iop9000- You appear to still have the textured clear lens/trim part that sits on the outsides of the main headlamp section minus the amber portion.

It seems that you have fuitted an angel eyes mod as well but in relationn to the amber removal did you just simply dremel the amber bit out after baking then refit ?

Would be interested to see a 90 degree side on shot to judge the extent of the void left once tha amber has been removed.

I would be interested in knowing more about this process also! What does baking the headlight involve (how is it done) And how did you install the angel eyes. You headlights look diffferent to mine also as my main beam and projector lights have a textured look to them where yours are nice and clear!
