Stealer!

I brought my 2002 x5 4.4 to the dealer for servicing and it ended up being $1800

Wagner 10-11-2006 06:10 PM

OK, any more information?

ThrasherFan 10-11-2006 11:45 PM

Would you be willing to share the details of what services were performed, parts used etc?

EZDozzit 10-11-2006 11:48 PM

Hmmm can you elaborate a little?

racerboydrew 10-12-2006 12:29 AM

Sorry about it being vague

I brought the car in to have the oil and brakes changed and they then told me that some oil lines were crushed in the back of the engine ($600), I needed new brake sensors($70/per), door lock actuator ($400), plus numerous other things coming to a total of around $1800-$1900. All on a visit that should have only cost around $200. I am glad though that they are so thorough.

Well if you're glad their thorough, and you're paying dealer hourly rates and parts costs, what is the big gripe about? BMW's have never been known as a cheap fix car.

"brake sensors"??!! - aren't they only changed during a brake job? - door lock actuator is replaced only if you complain about it - did they not discuss any of these "repairs" before going ahead with them?????

Thanks for the details! Based on the work performed sounds about right for a dealer. Those crushed oil lines at back of engine are probably the crankcase vent hoses which deteriorate after about 40K miles. The hoses themselves cost about $75 from the dealer and it took me about an hr to replace them. Pretty expensive repair from dealer, but it's consistent with most dealer repair costs.

No extended warranty I guess.
