Cost of new front outer CV Boots?

Just noticed that both the outer driver and passenger side CV boots are torn on my 2002 4.4. I just checked them a few weeks ago and they were okay. Must have just happened. Before I start calling around I was wondering what kind of price to fix would be acceptable. My boots both have a small tear in them and very little grease has been thrown out, so I know the bearings are probably fine. I guess I am looking at a boot replacement and nothing more. I don't have the time or tools to do a DIY. So I am wondering what people have paid to have this done at the dealer and independent shops. Don't want to get baboozled so I guess its best to know what the going price is before I start calling around.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

my local dealer quoted me 450 per side. an independent shop should be considerably less (maybe half)

Roughly $40 for parts plus 2 hours labor per side. I paid less than $300 total.

What is the difference between the outer and inner cv boots? just curious...

I have to get mine changed as well.
dealer quoted 825 parts and labor

one independent shop quoted 748 parts and labor
another independent shop quoted 640 parts and labor

I've been told it's a pretty labor intensive job, which is why it's as costly as it is.

Just paid $615 for 1 outer at Dealer...

Just got a pair of outer cv boots at the dealer and they were $35.95 + tax each at New Century BMW at Alhambra.

Labor, now that's another question because no way I will have it done there at the dealer.

wow pretty pricey but also not surprising that it was that much.. but yea my driver side outer cv boot torn in half and i had a friend change it for me.. saved me lots but then i also work at a subee dealership.. which helps me tremendously with tools and being able to use the lift at work...

good perks you have there 1badassx5...maybe if i had the lift and all the tools then i'd be brave enough to do all these DIY on this forum as well
