Picture 10 After doing a DVD install, and after running the battery very low,
the X5 threw a major fit and brought home to me the value of keeping one's battery in a good state of charge, hence voltmeter, only location I could find that was discreet.

BTY - M badge on rear may look a bit redneck, but, hell, it came with the kit.
Applied it in a moment of madness!
Anyway, in my book, M stands for "MODIFIED", OK?

sorry but those down ward tips are hiddeous!! I hope they are just temporary?! Other then that nice installs.

Good to see you posting.... congrats on all the mods.

They are not a permanent fixture and can be shortened, or modified, but some downward thrust is required to prevent soot build up, which is probably why bmw hid the standard mufflers on the diesel in the first place.
All opinions welcome on this, good :) or bad :(

Since the Remus tips stick out so far maybe you could shorten the tips so that the soot could be hidden better on the black trim instead of the silver bumper. Just a thought.

Can you post the the wiring circuit for the voltmeter mod, sounds a sensible solution to me.

The soot build up on the rear is a particular problem if one tows trailers, not necessarily this little one, but I have two larger ones in regular use. The bow wave at the front of the trailer exacerbates the problem and the build up is much worse than that depicted in the pictures, even after a day's use. Since the tips were fitted, no soot. The exhaust is deflected down and dispersed under the trailer. While the visual impact is a bit overwhelming, they do work.
Then again, aesthetics were never my strong point, an acceptable engineering solution always takes precedence :)

Anyway, maybe the usage of the term "hiddeous" was inferred using reverse psychology, as a geater degree of "sick-ness" :)

The voltmeter has 4 wires, 1 ground, 1 perm -ve12v, 1 switched -ve12v, and 1 switched -ve12v from the lighting cct to dim the display.
For the life of me, I could not find a switched -ve12v in the door, I knew there had to be one there, but after 2 hours still couldn't find it.
Anyway I bunched all 12v lines together and connected them to a perm -ve12v from the window lift mechanism. The end result is the display is on permanently in a dimmed state which is more than adequate for my purposes. Current usage is minimal. Sometimes my X5 can be parked up for several days on the trot and I can keep an eye on the voltage. I have a battery charger with a timer that gives the X5 a boost of charge every 6 hours. Keeps the battery healthy and all the electronics happy.
Also, if parked up and watching a DVD, one can keep an eye on the voltage decay. I could let it safely go down to ~11.5v before restarting.
It shows 14 - 14.2 when fully charged and engine running.

Diesels are awsome...my 3.0i gets about half ur economy!!

Nice job but those tips are awful, you better watch out you might trip on those
