starter motor broken
My x5, 2004 3.0d, was brought in for service the other day and I complained about hard starting. Initially, we thought that it was the battery but upon examination, the dealer called me up and it was traced to the starter. The problem is within the bendix whatever that is. Now, the dealer is charging me 500usd for the starter. Is it really this expensive?

Same thing happened to my 3.0d 6 months ago (2004 model), it was replaced under warranty without a quibble.

Shouldn't that be in warranty still?

Warranty differs from country to country.

Maybe this is a factory defect? All our other cars never had such problem. Including our 12 yr old corolla hehe |
I went to pic my my x from the dealer today. They told me the starter will be coming in next week. And the best part is, IT'S UNDER WARRANTY. WEEEEE :)
Also had my engine bay detailed. I'll take some pics later. it's sparking clean. |
