Well I know that I have encouraged several friends and relatives to go testdrive BMWs and all but 1 person has bought what they drove. The person that didn't? Can't justify the cost. Many can't. I would like to think that all the people driving around in the 'short buses' and the minivans need the space...surely they don't drive them for looks or performance.

But the truth is that most people only drive to get from point A to point B. Hell even most BMW drivers do the same. Most of those I would presume would be driving the more luxurious german car(Merc) if they had the resources. For most people cars are utilitarian. The important thing to us is that we are in love with automobiles! Of many makes.

So to answer your question ryder, YES! We are a special breed. But there are members of our breed that for whatever reason prefer other vehicles. Maybe because of price? Maybe because they have never driven a BMW. I know for me, I have not found another car maker that provides so much all around performance. There are cars that are faster...cars that even handle better...cars that are better looking but I like a little bit of each!

I agree that you can not fully understand what it is like to drive a car until you...drive the car. :doh: This goes for the short buses too!

And for some you can judge thy book by its cover! :p

You are absolutely right. However I would hope that you agree that there are "special" automobiles. As car lovers we should all feel "special" to be able to drive any of them. BMW or otherwise. And if you don't like the thread...don't F*$@ING read it!

The OP said "what do you think?" I said what I think... or is it only ok to agree with other people on here and kiss ass and say "whoohooo yeeeeha! we're all so special because we own something that someone else doesn't! We Rule! They drool!"

Sorry, but cars are cars, some have features that others don't, some go faster some go slower, some cost more some less, that's about it, ... none of those things makes the owner or driver any more "special" than anyone else...

I think he meant "special" in the sense that people who don't just see a car as a machine to get from point A to B are special. I think most people see a car as simply a conveyance, not something to be enjoyed to the extent that your average BMW driver appreciates.

BMW used to be the "yuppie issue ride", but a BMW is not so astronomically priced that they're out of the pocketbook reach of the vast majority of the population anymore, like the Enzo or the more exotic cars. With everyone refinancing and cashing out their equity, you see more and more high dollar cars on the road, espcially with the way the CPO market is now.

You said you have a Z06. If you're not a "special" breed of driver, that car's capabilities would be wasted on you, man!

Hey Gresch, I think you are taking the post out of context. I didn't mean that we are special and deserve to not pay our taxes or somthing. I mean we as BMW drivers, really appreciate the thrill of driving. We enjoy discussing performance and tech talk. How many school bus forums have you read? I don't by any means think that we are above other automobile buyers. I just think there had to be some performance factor in our decision to purchase a BMW.
And no this doesn't mean that others can't talk perfomance or tech. But when you have people that dispute every word that comes out of your mouth and they drive a school bus...WTF. People can say what they want about BMW drivers. I believe that we are some of the most down to earth and loyal people you'll ever meet. Talk about loyal, I'm on my 3rd BMW in 5 years. So I guess I can answer my own question..

What the f***! Gresch, perhaps you are reading another thread than the one I am. Ryder asked are we as BMW drivers a special breed of driver, not better. In other words do we value different things in a vehicle. This thread in the end only proved his point...

A- There are people in the world that like to debate every piece of info there is.
B - Short school bus drivers (QX56, Armada, Suburban) value size and conveyance over performance and handling. Some rightfully so because they have several kid, dogs, projects, etc... but most because they just like big, performance and road manners be damned. Now I used to live in No. Jersey too and you can not tell me that when you pass these buses on the pike (or here in the bay) the overwhelming number of them are carrying but a single passenger.

That's all I am saying, not let's line em up and shoot them, not they should be carry me around on there shoulders... just that BMW drivers are different in vehicle values and priorities than those who drive the others. I meant to curse at the end to maintain the flow, but I am out of thoughts.

Gresch, you're dumb. It's true that people don't understand why we love BMWs because they don't drive one. Nearly everyone I know who drives a BMW has become more of a car fan/ a BMW lover because of it. There's just somethign about it. Now why don't you go piss and moan a little more about your headlights.

Now Joel that's not what I would call "productive" and you have been known to rant yourself in the recent past. I can't wait to see Gresch's response to your statement.
