Diesel Engine ???
Hi There !
Just a word to say that it could be interesting to create a section dedicate to diesel powered X5 ? I know, i know...diesel stinks but X5World has more and more international members...and X5 diesel members ! Does someone is interested in sharing his informations, tips...concerning diesel X5 ? Thanks |
I second the motion  . Diesel owner here
|
diesel head here I third it:thumbup:
|
Well to begin to collect data from our diesel X5 what do you think of :
- fuel consumption statistics - average maintenance interval (personal record : 38 000 km between maintenance) - tips for more performances : chips, reprogrammed injection system...and many thing else what do you think of it ? which matter is the most interesting to begin ? |
any topic will do for me! :)
|
Good idea! Just bought my first X5. A 2004 3.0d:thumbup:
|
Got an '06 3.0d myself with mannual tranny and a li'l "Tunit" box; the huge daily torque overdose I get whenever I'm driving it makes me really wonder why gasoline V8's are still around. Must be the oil companies cartels dishing money out to car manufacturers to keep the 'ol gas-guzzling V8's alive....
Long Live the Diesel ! Can't wait to try the new-gen X5 when it comes out with the twin-turbo oil-burner :mmm: |
i heard diesel cars have insanely better fuel economy per gallon than a gas car, is that true? what mpg are u getting?
does diesel produce higher pollution? thnx |

according to my dealer, even if the diesel exhaust fume stinks, it's stil much cleaner than the gasoline counterpart :). under hard acceleration, smoke sometimes come out but it might just be the diesel fuel quality here in the philippines |
There is a optional particulate filter on the 2004+ cars. It cleans the exhaust, and are not letting out any of the black smoke assosiated with older diesel engines.
The most impressive with the 218 hp diesel engines, are the the 367 lb-ft torque that are easily chipped/tuned to around 260 hp and 440 lb-ft torque. And all that with 32+ mpg consumption. |

And nearly as much fun :) |
Average consumption on mine from initial purchase to 15,000km has been 10.4 litre/100km. This includes approx 25% of the milage pulling a 30 ft race car trailer, and the rest mostly lead footing it around town.
On country trips without the trailer I easily get 8 litre/100km. Chris. |
i reallllllllly can't wait until california starts allowing diesel cars back, esp now that BlueTec is available thanks to Mercedes. A diesel X5 would be awesome.
|
My 184 hp 2003 X5 Diesel with automatic gearbox needs between 9,5 to 10,5 l / 100 km. And i drive not particularly slow down...
A man called Fochesato, who was working for Ferrari, is selling a reprogramming ship service that put your diesel engine up to 50 hp more and 12 nm of torque more !! and what ever is your engine (184 or 218...) Reprogrammed ship is not detectable by BMW maintenance service.... Some french magazine have test it and apparently that is working fine and fuel consumption is lowered from 0,5 to 1 l / 100 km. Drawbacks : cost... Around 1500 €... Does anyone has try a ship or something to boost his diesel X5 ? |

Other Diesel man!
When I have a minute I will post mine. |

The main factory is in Switzerland. They work very good, with the limit to excess of smoke and not more than 35HP to avoid mechanic problems. Remember that the automatic tranny (5 speed old version like mine)could have problem with torque superior at around 50Mn. The fuel consumption are really lower because you have more torque and the engine works better. Reduction around 0,5 and performance impressive! Price is around 650Euro |
Boost up diesel X5
Wow, 35 hp for 650 €, that seems to be a good deal ! Do you have any contact for them ?
Do you know how do they proceed ? I'm very afraid from solutions that increase turbo pressure... Have you try the solution you've talked about ? |

i think u can eliminate the black smoke by getting an aftermarket chip and a good dyno tune. |

This is not visible from the bmw instruments. It acts on the parameters of the motor, injection, turbo,..... The web address should be: www.digitaltuning.ch , try to contact them. I'm very happy |

These guys have decades of experience of troublefree modifications to which I can speak for. If you want further information, you can PM me. |
Thanks Cimbro for your witness.
Could you give us more details about the gain you have obtained ? Performances, feeling, fuel consumption ? Thanks |
I've just had to drive 900km to a bushfire fairly urgently, and did the trip on one tank (exactly 8lt/100km) at an average of exactly 100kph
I'll take some convincing that this isn't one great performing 4WD (or SUV ;) ) :D |
No that happens here in Australia 2. When you put the boot in you get black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes.

Where abouts in australia are you. I used to have an 03 diesel and i could drive up to sydney and back from melb on about 1 tank. Very good consump. And they are quite sharp on the pedal as well.

Do you have a pre-facelift or a after 2003 mod? |
A smooth V8 under foot is wonderful thing. But for guilt free performance, economy and reliabilty give me a 3.0 "sooty" anytime. Maybe an extra turbo wouldn't go astray but I would recommend a DPchip Box (Tunit Box) for those who like the forces of gravity. Nice idea for a diesel only section, but this is a very social and informative site and splitting up fuel types will dilute it's special quality. Try the search mode for any new diesel threads. Just my 2 cents anyway.
Cheers, All X'ers |
