It always seems to works for us and we use two keys. Are you locking the vehicle each time? I think it only remembers the setting at the time of locking so if you make an adjustment but don't lock the vehicle it reverts to the setting it was at the last time it was locked with that key.

In the spring and fall when I roll with the windows down and sunroof open, I obviously turn off the A/C. I always have to turn it off again when I get back in the car (the first time after originally turning it off). The following time, it remembers the "off" setting, and stays off.

Have all of you guys locked the X after you left the vehicle? Locking with the remote saves the settings you had so they can be retreived next time you unlock the car with the remote. If you don't lock the car with the remote, the car may or may not remember the previous settings.

Yeah apparently there is some magic equation to get the AC to stay off. I always lock mine with the remote after getting out and 1 out of 5 times it remembers to keep the AC off. I have never understood why BMW does the "auto on AC" thing. Every BMW I've had has had this.

You can have partial auto settings, for instance if you do not like the fan speed, you can change it, but the auto climate control is still controlling where to send the air, ie which vents to use. Therefore, when you get out of the car and let it sit for a while, the climate control will still choose where to send the air.

Even so, it is linked to the KM system and that has all sorts of funny quirks and foibles. It could be the problem.

 I have another key, its just that we only use one of them.
