maintenance program
The dealer emailed me the following rational for getting the extended maintenance.
Hi Fred, The price I quoted covers your free maintenance to 6yr/100,000 miles. It truly is an excellent program. If you happen to drive the vehicle until 100,000 miles, it will undoubtedly pay for itself. Keep in mind that at 60,000 miles, your vehicle requires a maintenance inspection 2 that will cost you approx $500-600 if you don't have the extended maintenance. The warranty extension is a bit different. What this does is extend your factory warranty. Although, it will no longer carry bumper to bumper coverage. Most of your "major" components are covered under this agreement. Unfortunately, there is some gray area as to some of the parts and/or repairs that are or are not covered. It can be quite confusing. That's not to say that it's not excellent coverage, it's just not bumper to bumper. And, it does carry a $50 deductible for all warranty work performed. I hope this answers your questions and I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks |
what does bumper to bumper actually mean?

prog. covers the car, bumper to bumper. (Though I have heard of some resistance to battery replacement and of course, tires, wheel alingment, wheel balance are generally a shorter term and/or a seperate issue.) DrFred's posted response from his dealer guy, points out that the BMW Mutha official Extended Warranty, is not the same full "coverage" as the orig oem warranty; it is, in fact, equal to CPO warranty coverage, which is less than the orig oem warranty in terms of "coverage". Funny how even the dlr guy ref's those "gray areas" for parts and/or repairs that 'are or are not covered'. And, 'It can be quite confusing', may be an understatement, . I remain convinced, that if one is rolling up on 50K miles and wants/plans to do another 50k, some kind of safety net in the form of an ext warr., either BMW's offering or a 3rd party, is a prudent move. Or, start banking a lil' dough for that potential rainy day. Or, one maybe lucky. Ymmv... GL,mD |
I was just quoted $1,545 for full maintenance upgrade from BMW of Honolulu. I bought the X CPO, so don't need the extended warranty. I currently have 48,000 miles and it's highly unlikely I'll reach even 80,000 miles in two years. Leaning toward purchasing, but . . . . . Any thoughts?

Someone Help me navigate on the extended warranty / maint
Hearing mixed reviews, but for the most part I think the concesus is:
1) go get the maint and try to get it for around $1200, because general maintenance cost will be at least $1500? correct? 2) extneded warranty is about 50/50 and many are saying get a third parties. What is the concensus on BMW warranty vs third party? Anyone have a good/bad experience with 3rd party? Is ~ 3k a good price for the bmw warranty? Just purchased 03 X5 4.4i and in need of guidance. Warranty runs out in May, and only have 30k miles. Please help! (love the SAV) |
Extended Warranty
So is it correct that if I am not the original owner I cannot purchase an Extended BMW Warranty? If so I guess I will start looking for another vehicle soon.
