Temperature Gauge REALLY HOT!
So its been super cold in seattle and i was driving home from work today and noticed that my temp gauge was at the hottest point. I pulled over and there was no smoke comming from my radiator and no leakage. whats goin on?
|
Worst case scenario: Either your thermostat and/or water pump is failing. Coolant from your radiator is not getting to your engine.
Best case scenario: Temp sensor is faulty. In either case, get it checked ASAP. Do not drive with your temp gauge reading in the red. Continuous running of an overheated engine will cause a serious case of detonation. |
Thanks for the info, im gonna go check on my coolant level, hopefully it was just a fluke for the night. the car seemed to drive normally.

Just took the x for a spin and dropped of my gf to work, everything back to normal soo far, didnt go on the freeway yet.
|
Radiator may have iced up causing the issue if the snow pack in your rad impedes too much airflow it can cause the car to run hot
|
hey head, sounds like thats what might have happend.

Mine did the dame thing about 3 weeks ago when travelling over a mountain pass here in British Columbia - had the X running for a few minutes before actually leaving - was reading really hot so I pulled over to check - couldn't find anything that appeared wrong - when I restarted the engine everything was normal again.

hey siberian. so nothing wierd has happend since. i thought it was really wierd. it was super cold and my car was parked for about 7 hours and i heated it up before driving. i didnt notice until i had already driven about 5 miles and was like oh crap that doesnt look right. i pulled my car over and could find nothing wrong

No nothing weird has happened since - I think it might have something to do with having the X idle for a few minutes to warm up before leaving - I think I read somewhere that you aren't supposed to do that with this engine.

hmmm. thats good to know :) hopefully mine is the same
