Temperature Gauge REALLY HOT!

So its been super cold in seattle and i was driving home from work today and noticed that my temp gauge was at the hottest point. I pulled over and there was no smoke comming from my radiator and no leakage. whats goin on?

Worst case scenario: Either your thermostat and/or water pump is failing. Coolant from your radiator is not getting to your engine.

Best case scenario: Temp sensor is faulty.

In either case, get it checked ASAP. Do not drive with your temp gauge reading in the red. Continuous running of an overheated engine will cause a serious case of detonation.

Radiator may have iced up causing the issue if the snow pack in your rad impedes too much airflow it can cause the car to run hot

Smile

Mine did the dame thing about 3 weeks ago when travelling over a mountain pass here in British Columbia - had the X running for a few minutes before actually leaving - was reading really hot so I pulled over to check - couldn't find anything that appeared wrong - when I restarted the engine everything was normal again.

No nothing weird has happened since - I think it might have something to do with having the X idle for a few minutes to warm up before leaving - I think I read somewhere that you aren't supposed to do that with this engine.
