brakes

ok so i got the check brake linings warning. dealer wants 1100 total for front rear, i have someone who can use OE bmw parts and do the job for 785. what is a reasonable price for front/rear, what parts are necessary for this and do i NEED to change rotors or is it just SUGGESTED? i know there are a ton of threads on this but by the time you get the info you need you've read a billion and a half of misc info :) thanks guys love you :) ;)

so do you guys think 785 is a fair price for everything?

Sure, anything under 1000.00 is a major bargain. My dealer wanted 1200 for brakes.

Rotors in a BMW should always be changed as BMW by design uses softer rotors & harder pads to make the brakes actually work, however...it burn up the rotor.

If the rotors are still good why pay more? Just get them cut.... This will save you time and money. Make sure the machanic knows what he is doing and is not charging you to much, cause if he is, then your better off buying new ones....

I just did my brakes with my machanic, 605.00 labor and parts (taxes included)...

I just want to add that the brake sensor is a bunch of crap. The warning came on yesterday, I drove about 10 miles home from where it came on, checked my pads, and there isn't anything left!

BimmerDude 01-16-2007 04:57 PM

Yes you are correct SVH, I didn't even know I needed brakes till my mechanic showed me last week, I took it in so that he can put my new P-Zero's on and "BAAAAAMMMMM" I needed to dish out 600 bucks... The sensor only goes on when there is nothing left to grip.... "GO FIGURE" Do the old fashioned way. Listen and feel if you need new brakes....

well this guy was lexus and i think bmw certified just has his own shop. he's charging me 790 labor+parts which i think is reasonable even compared with 605 since parts and labor differ by state. as for rotors my thing is if they are good i can keep em but if they go after the new pads then i'm in twice and if they go i gotta repay the labor so why not just do it all in one shot and be safe (my motto is why do it twice if you can do it right the first time)
