Tonight Is My Last Night As An X-5 Owner
 

I have mixed emotions, and I am a bit sad, but tomorrow I am trading my 2001 3.0 X-5 on a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer SS. Let me start by saying I love my X-5 but a couple of issues that really did not have to do with the vehicle have forced me to go another way. Issue 1 was my extended warranty company going out of business last year (1sourceautowarranty.com). Issue 2 After the warranty went bust, I was paying $680.00 per month on an expensive car that no longer had a warranty. This lead me to want to trade the X-5 on something newer like a CPO later model year X-5. That is when I realized the high gas prices killed the value of these vehicles. The most I was being offered was $13000.00 can you believe that. It took me three hours of debate to get the Chevy dealer to give me $15000.00 for it. Right now GM is offering a $4000.00 rebate on the Trailblazer SS GM and I am the son of a former employee, so I ended up getting right at $8000.00 off of the sticker price, and my payment went down $150.00. It became a no brainer. I have loved my X-5 and If I could do it over I probably would have bought a newer one. Anyway I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Trailblazer SS, but it is the model with the 6.0L 390 horsepower Corvette engine. THAT THING IS A BEAST. :thumbup:

was your x5 in terrible shape?

Not at all there is not a scratch on it. I live in the Cleveland Ohio area, and everyone was consistant. The truck does have high miles 86k, but it still should not have been that hard to get $15000.00 for it. If you look on Kelly Blue Book the range for an 01 with 86K miles has a range of 12 to 15 thousand dollars.

I know the feeling, you will miss the X, but there are a lot of people that will never have the opportunity to own a BMW. Besides, now you just made room to buy a new X5. Good luck with the TB SS! Be sure to post some pics and a review.

Dude, why don't you just lease a new BMW X5. The BMW dealership will give you much more on trade and leasing will bring your payment down. Not to mention you can buy at the end of the lease and they usually have really great rates.

If not wait and sell it yourself. Screw letting the dealership make the bucks off of the trade. I sell all of my cars on craigslist.org. Sold my 2001 323 in one day! Even if you don't sell it for more than 15k you will make someone really, really happy. And, the dealer doesn't make crap on the trade.

but I'm still going with the X5. Every dealer in town has been offering me 12k for the lincoln with average miles (43k), ever feature possible on the car and is on car lots right now retailing for 20,000.00 but 12 was the max trade I could get from any dealer I walked in...

I walked in my last colorado BMW dealer and laid it all on the line. I told her I didn't need the standard sales pitch and that I wasn't trying to sound rude or mean, but that I probably knew more about the car than she did, so save the sales pitch. I told her my min. trade value and that I knew wholesale pricing on the X5 I was looking at was 30k. She said, thank you for being honest, let's go drive the truck.

Anyway, they came within 500.00 of what I wanted on the trade and threw in a CD changer on the x5 (because for what ever reason, someone bought a $60K car three years ago and only used tapes.. weird I tell you)

The truck passed it's CPO inspection yesterday and I will hopefully have time to go down tomorrow or Thursday to pick it up!

Sorry to hear you had to trade down to the Chevy. I've been a loyal Ford customer for the past 10 years. An 96 T-bird, 95 Mustang GT Hardtop, 96 Mustang GT Convertible, 00 Lincoln LS8, 03 Lincoln LS8 and when my dealership was bought out by the dealership that disrespected me, I vowed to never buy another ford again. Not to mention their declining quality, poor service and the fact I fell in love with the x5 the min I drove it.

Also, the dealer is full of S%^t. High gas prices brought down resale on LARGE SUVs not mid size or small SUVs. I read a whole article on it on msnbc.com just the other day.

Man all you had to say was "paying 680/mth on a car with no warranty" that would have been convincing enough for me. Plus think of all the money you just saved. Will the SS ride/handle/have the quality of the BMW....nope but but for the price, and if power is your choice, it isn't a bad buy. Though if I was unloading my X for an American SUV....Jeep SRT-8 all the way....it would stomp the X and SS into oblivion. Good Luck.
