Both my Maintenance and Warranty will run out by april of this year and I also have been contemplating on getting both warranties. Is $4,200 a fixed price for all states or is it more expensive here in the LA, Cali area?

Anyone here in LA know of a good dealer or a 3rd party company that gives good deals on warranty for the X5?

Your input would be greatly appreciated!

I am writing from OKC. For my 2004 4.4 sport, I was quoted $3,875 for the warranty and $1.495 for the maintenance. I have no other options in terms of BMW dealers in OK because the same man owns the BMW dealer in Tulsa.

Are there any options open to me that would bring the price down and give the same coverage?

Try Warranty Direct for a quote...it isn't BMW,
but it's decent coverage.

That $3875 is equiv to almost $2Gs per year for
the two yr run of the ext warr. The Maint. quote
is reasonable, esp if you cop some brakes, etc
from it, I suppose.

Both Ext Warr and Ext Maint used to be shoppable
via non-local stlrs, but most want to "run your key"
before signing you up. Both products have become
very pricey, imo. Another margin builder for the Stlrs,
as I am certain the actuarials have been amassed and
run by BMW Mutha, with more cars and time under their
number crunching belts.

I was afraid of that...but I definitely agree that getting the warranty from the dealer eliminates the headache of getting any warranty done since it is from them originally and not from a third party company.

I'm not pumping Warranty Direct; I do have their ext. warranty but,
have not yet had to use it. SuperGreg, a well known Mod & Member
here, has used his WD coverage with success and satisfaction...
I realize that 3rd party warranties have been rapped and most of
the previous companies were dead beats/no pays/and have gone bk.
Thus far, WD hangs on and seems legit.

My only point is that the BMW Ext Warr. is pricey, only 2 years worth
of coverage and is identical to CPO coverage which is not the same
coverage one has enjoyed under the oem warranty; that is rarely
made clear or understood, by the potential buyer.

I don't care what one gets; my admonition is only to:
-go into BMW's deal realizing the cost, short time period and real coverage.
-at least let WD do a quote for you and read their coverage
details.
Then, you can make a reasonable decision.

I have zero connection with WD, other than having one.
If BMW had had their deal when I booked my Ext Warr.
with WD, I still think I would have preferred WD's longer
time frame, more thorough coverage and, better price.

But, diff'n strokes.

So I guess they don't offer it anymore. That is for the Maintenance Warranty right? What about the Extended Warranty?

My original warranty expired on my 2001 BMW X5. What I did
was check online, and I ended up with a company named
Warranty Direct and I purchased a 48 month plan and the
one that covered just about everything with NO deductible.
It was much cheaper than the one offered by BMW.
To date, it has more than paid for itself, as I did need to use it a few
times. Warranty Direct did end up paying for everything. Some
service advisors may not like dealing with these outside warranty
companies because it may mean more phone calls, paperwork, and
negotiating, etc., but as far as I am concerned the company did pay up and that is all that matters, right?
(I had the sun roof mechanism replaced $1600. worth of service,
Left front CV Joint Boot, which is very unusual, $400 worth of service,
Heater Blower Resister $200 or so) - the total savings has already
paid for the cost of the warranty and I still have about two more
years to go on this warranty!) Just be sure to check out the company
you go with. I can only speak from my experience and I am not
insuring that you will have the same good outcome.

So since WD doesn't take any new California Extended Warranty contracts, can someone recommend alternatives other than the stlr?
